Alleged acts of accused killer cop six months before double murder

The former police officer accused of the shooting murder of Jesse Baird and his boyfriend Luke Davies was stalking Baird and broke into his share house six months before the killings, fresh court documents allege.

Police laid three new charges against Beau Lamarre-Condon, 29, last month, alleging the killings of Baird and Davies in Paddington on February 19 were domestic violence-related due to a prior relationship between Baird and Lamarre-Condon.

The third charge is one of aggravated break and enter with intent.

According to court documents, obtained by this masthead on Thursday, police allege Lamarre-Condon broke into Baird’s Brown Street share house on August 17 last year, six months before the alleged double murder.

Police say Lamarre-Condon intended to commit a serious indictable offence, listed on the charge sheet as “stalking Jesse Baird”.

Baird, 26, was a Network Ten presenter and AFL umpire, while 29-year-old Davies had been a Qantas flight attendant.

Earlier this year, police sources confirmed Baird had told friends in the months before his death of seeing a shadowy figure at the end of his bed late at night.

Speaking to this masthead on Thursday, Lamarre-Condon’s lawyer John Walford said he was “a little bit surprised” about the break-in charge, but they would “deal with it”.

He said his client, who has remained in custody since his arrest, was “hanging in there”.

“It’s a tough place, that’s the way it is,” Walford said.

Police allege Lamarre-Condon, who was a senior constable before he was removed from the force in March, used his police-issued Glock to shoot Baird and Davies at the Paddington home before dumping their bodies in surfboard bags outside the town of Bungonia, south of Goulburn.

Investigations began after police were alerted to bloodied personal items in a skip bin in Cronulla, and when the two men could not be located.

Lamarre-Condon handed himself in to police on February 23.

He is yet to enter any pleas and his case returns to Downing Centre Local Court on August 13.

The two domestic violence-related murder charges are expected to replace the two original murder charges to avoid duplication as the case proceeds through the courts.
