Brisbane Times welcomes two new trainee journalists

Brisbane Times this week welcomes two trainee journalists, Catherine Strohfeldt and William Davis, who have joined the newsroom for a 12-month program to hone their reporting skills.

In congratulating the duo, Editor Sean Parnell said: “Independent journalism is incredibly important in a dynamic city like ours.

“Ahead of the relaunch of Brisbane Times last year, we hired seven journalists and producers to broaden our coverage and demonstrate our ongoing commitment to the region.

“We had a record number of applications for Brisbane Times traineeships, and are delighted to have young journalists of the calibre of William and Catherine join our newsroom.”

The trainees were selected on merit after a series of interviews, writing and current affairs tests, and workshops.

Catherine Strohfeldt

Catherine Strohfeldt has lived in Brisbane since 2019, having previously called the Sunshine Coast home. Before joining Brisbane Times, she studied at the University of Queensland and worked with 4ZZZ Radio.

“If my experience living in Brisbane has taught me anything, it’s that we’re a vibrant and varied city. And that we’ve got a fair bit of charm,” Strohfeldt said.

“I’m keen to work with such a talented bunch of journalists to cover the way Brisbane changes and grows in the years to come.”

William Davis

William Davis studied at Macquarie University and worked as a digital reporter in Sydney, before moving to Orange, NSW, to write for the Central Western Daily, covering everything from local government to crime and breaking news.

“I’m so excited to join Brisbane Times,” Davis said.

“It’s an incredible team and I want to contribute to its reporting in a city where so many exciting things are happening.”
